Additional Research |
The first mention of the triangle in Western Europe dates from the King Wenceslaus IV Bible in the late 14th century. The triangle first appears as part of a musical ensemble in Turkish "Janissary" music. It gained status as a standard component of the modern orchestra when Lizst included a solo part for the triangle in his Piano Concerto in E flat. The triangle's tone is best described by Robert Donington: "While it is of quite indeterminate pitch when heard alone, it always appears to belong to the prevailing tonality of the orchstra."
