Roy Knapp's Ludwig Pedals Chicago Patented in 1909 and 1924 The popularity of the Ludwig & Ludwig floor pedals among performers is illustrated by Roy Knapp's creative use of these pedals. He has ingeniously connected an early pedal, originally patented in 1909, with a subsequent model bearing the later 1909/1924 patent date. This double-pedal design of Knapp's own making allows him to play the bass drum with a single beater or to engage the beater and cymbal striker simultaneously with the other pedal. This option allows him to exercise significantly greater control over volume and timbre. Donated by James L. Knapp PAS Museum Exhibit Label |
