Early Ludwig Bass Drum Pedal Chicago c.1913 This very early pedal already exhibits the essential structure characteristics that dominate Ludwig & Ludwig pedal design through the 1920s. The articulated heel plate on this pedal is similar to the heel late design found on the "Ludwig Jr." pedal from the same period. However, this hinged-plate feature will soon be replaced by the rigid foot-plate design found on all later pedals manufactured by Ludwig & Ludwig in this ear.
